Greenville, SC – Greenville Football Club announced today that with recent movement within the NPSL Southeast Conference it has decided to take a hiatus from the 2020 NPSL season.

After careful consideration and extensive due diligence, Greenville Football Club’s leadership has decided it is in the clubs best interest to refrain from 2020 NPSL play. The plan, in this hiatus, is to develop and execute on other key initiatives that can further grow and develop the game in the upstate, as well as, the Greenville FC brand, all the while planning an enhanced and exciting return to the Men’s game.

“This was a very difficult decision to come to, but a decision we found crucial for the long term health, sustainability and future growth of the organization as a whole,” said Marco Carrizales, Co-Founder of Greenville FC. “Our mission will never change, and that is to grow and build the sport of soccer in our community from every level of play.”

“Our main objective has always been to provide a platform for the growth of the sport, and up to this point that has been done primarily through the men’s program in the NPSL,” continued Carrizales. “That’s only one component of the overall intention of the Greenville FC organization.”

“We are incredibly thankful to this community and to every individual that has helped get Greenville FC to this point,” continued Carrizales. “Rest assured we will not be going anywhere. This isn’t a time to dwell, but rather a time to regroup and work harder than ever towards a fruitful future.”

Greenville, SC – Greenville FC continued their unbeaten start to the 2019 season with an impressive 6-0 victory over Inter Nashville FC on Saturday night at Sirrine Stadium.

Lee Squires made four changes to the starting XI that tied Chattanooga FC a week prior. Austin Mullins stepped into the net for an injured Paul Tyson, Malick Mbaye replaced Emil Tansinda at right back, Quinn McNeil stepped in for Emery May in midfield, Jamie North stepped up into a striker role, and Kimarni Smith dropped into left back for Thomas Spear.

Full Starting XI: Austin Mullins (GK), Malick Mbaye (RB), Toby Sims (CB), Harvey Moyes (CB), Kimarni Smith (LB), Tyler Bolton (CM), Sinclaire Sandy (CM), Quinn McNeill (RM), Manuel Perez (LM), David Koprowski (ST), Jamie North (ST).

Eager to get their first win at their new home, Greenville FC didn’t take long to get on the board after Manuel Perez smashed home a goal in the 5th minute. The goal came from a quick counter-attacking transition from Quinn McNeill to Jamie North down the right flank that was collected and sent across the pitch to Manuel Perez where he calmly collected it and struck it into the top corner.

Greenville FC earned a penalty kick in the 36th minute after an Inter Nashville players hand made contact with the ball in the box following a Greenville FC strike. The penalty was taken by Jamie North but was saved by the Inter Nashville FC keeper.

In the 38th minute, not long after the missed penalty, Jamie North served a lobbed ball across Inter Nashville FC’s 18-yard box that Malick Mbaye sent into the back of the net from a stellar bicycle kick to take the lead to 2-0.

David Koprowski would add another before halftime to send the team into the locker room with a three-goal advantage over Inter Nashville.

Greenville FC continued their dominance in the second half after Manuel Perez notched his second of the match in the 58th minute.

An Inter Nashville FC player was ejected in the 77th minute after things began to heat up in the match. Playing a man down, Inter Nashville allowed two more goals in the closing minutes of the game that came from Emery May in the 88th minute and Lars Kaula in the 90th minute.

With a wide-open start to the match, Asheville City SC struck net first in the 29th minute to take the lead to 1-0. It took them no time to put their second on the board in the 30th minute, leaving Greenville FC players and supporters stunned.

Halftime was an extended one due to lightning strikes in the area, delaying 2nd half action by 30 minutes.

With a full recharge and tactic adjustments, Greenville FC started off on the right foot. David Koprowski entered the game at the start of the second half replacing Lars Kaula. Koprowski, full of energy, was eager to turn the game around.

Koprowski, only three minutes into the 2nd half, notched one back for the club after crashing a loose ball in the box, re-energizing the crowd and injecting new life into the team.

In the 81st minute, Jack Shiels notched the equalizer to bring the score to 2-2 with little time left to play. Both teams were eager for 3 points, which called for an exciting rest of the match.

Greenville FC fended off back to back corner kicks from Asheville City in the 88th minute and pushed for the winning goal but neither team at the end could secure all 3 points ending the match in a 2-2 draw.

Through rain, mud and weather delays the home opener against rival Asheville City SC is sure to be one to remember. The club will meet Asheville City again Saturday, June 8, at Memorial Stadium in Asheville, NC, for the final leg of the Carolina Classico.
